I was in a state when I thought of this.
Do the words we use help us to grow our brains?
I don’t have a clue when it comes to the brain, it is deep, and fraught with curves and twists.
We have found a fun new game we play, but I’m not sure it helps the brain to grow. I won’t say what the game is called yet, but it is a ton of fun.
You sit in a group and try to get your team to guess words from clues. There’s a blow up “NO” bat that you use to bonk the one who breaks the rules.
We have a lot of laughs, and it keeps the fun right in front of us. There’s a twist though, which makes the game too hard at times.
I’m not sure if you can tell what the rules are or what the name of the game is yet so I’ll just tell you. It’s called
Poetry <NO BAT>
for Neanderthals <NO BAT>
Whoops, just lost two points.
You have me curious about the game, and I think anything that gets kids curious about words grows their brains as long as you don’t bonk them too hard.

I love any game that involves thinking about words and makes you think! You are onto something!

Intriguing and absolutely no clue as to the game!

So I immediately had to look it up! And I would have ordered it but I’ll try to buy it from my local toy store that I am trying to support (versus Bezos.) Sounds so fun, can’t wait to try it when my family comes this summer. A previous commenter said they love any game with words- I have to admit I like any game where you get to hit someone on the head with a blow-up bat!

Heh.
The post (like the game) was written using (almost) exclusively single syllable words. It was an interesting challenge to write it and my usual voice suffered but it was a cool thought exercise. 😉

Ah, thanks for this! I got the name of the game but didn’t cotton on to the one syllable rule. So I reread your piece. Fun challenge! I’ll bet you wouldn’t have come up with the line I loved best of not for the rule!

… and I quite Ike the line ‘it keeps the fun right in front of us…’

I have seen this game in stores before and always pick it up to look at….but never buy it. Now I’m even more tempted! Your post is compelling–even with (mostly) one syllable words!
